Next Season Williams Switch from Renault to Mercedes

Williams Formula 1 team decided to replace the vehicle engine to the competition next season. They no longer use the  Renault and switch to Mercedes.

"Mercedes-Benz has become one of the most successful engine supplier and we believe they will have an engine package that truly competitive," said team principal and founder of the Williams team, Sir Frank Williams, quoted by Reuters on Thursday (30/05/2013).

Mercedes will be the sixth Williams engine partner within the last decade. Their previous work with BWM (2000-2005), Cosworth (2006), Toyota (2007-2009), Cosworth (again, 2010-2011), and Renault (2012-2013).

Thus in the 2014 season Mercedes will supply four from 11 F1 teams. The other three are the McLaren, Force India and Mercedes team itself. It's just going to switch to McLaren Honda from 2015. Meanwhile, the Renault said that parting with Williams it's good. Why, supplying too many teams judged "not economical and ideal" for the resources they have.

"Three or four teams to create our ideal. Thus, the departure of Williams actually normalize the situation and we made a lot of things much more clear," said the president of Renault Sport F1, Jean-Michel Jalinier.

In this season Renault to supply five teams: Williams, Lotus, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, and Caterham. Three teams have extended his contract last and certainly still holding Renault next season.
